I should honestly say that this book inspired me a lot in maintaining happy and healthy life for sure。 I wanted to concentrate more on the work I do unlike previously, when I used to take my work for granted。 This book definitely changed me so much。 PS: I don't know till when this effect is going to be on me。Overall this is a great read。**3。5stars** I should honestly say that this book inspired me a lot in maintaining happy and healthy life for sure。 I wanted to concentrate more on the work I do unlike previously, when I used to take my work for granted。 This book definitely changed me so much。 PS: I don't know till when this effect is going to be on me。Overall this is a great read。**3。5stars** 。。。more

16:08 it's a good book! a bit too focused on longevity tho (altho i dont mind that!! i really enjoyed those bits too, so yea if ur interested in what centenarians have in common + their habits & ideologies → i recommend this book!)。 i really enjoyed the parts that discussed eastern concepts / ideas & other similar things。 overall i enjoyed this book, i will definitely come back to it in a few days to take down some notes! 。。。more

Short read filled with great information about living with purpose and in good health。 It’s a mixture of things - research, facts, interviews, and stories。 You get a nice variety of sources。 There is very practical advice, as well。 The book is rather inspiring。

It was one of the books on my reading lists before。 I was really excited to have this on my Kindle。 However, the book does not simply talk about Ikigai as a whole。 It just simply showed not just Ikigai, but also the lifestyle of Okinawans based on their interviews。 It also includes communal life and so on。 It is on a wholistic level。 It did not even touch on the diagram of the Ikigai and have a careful exposition of it。 However, this book is a great read since it offers teachings about Stoicism It was one of the books on my reading lists before。 I was really excited to have this on my Kindle。 However, the book does not simply talk about Ikigai as a whole。 It just simply showed not just Ikigai, but also the lifestyle of Okinawans based on their interviews。 It also includes communal life and so on。 It is on a wholistic level。 It did not even touch on the diagram of the Ikigai and have a careful exposition of it。 However, this book is a great read since it offers teachings about Stoicism and even Buddhism。 Yet, I find it like a clickbait, having Ikigai in the title when it also elaborated about Moai, Hara hachi bi, Ichi-go Ichi-e and so on。 。。。more

Rating non-fiction books is hard -- I give this book 2 stars but the idea/concept of Ikigai 5 stars。 This book felt like a research paper I would have done in college -- all the facts I needed to assemble to meet the page requirement。 To be fair, I probably would've gotten a good grade on the paper, but that doesn't make it good reading。 I did appreciate that it was a concise read。。。too many "self-help" books are blog posts fattened up with repetition to be book-length。 As for ikigai -- I was in Rating non-fiction books is hard -- I give this book 2 stars but the idea/concept of Ikigai 5 stars。 This book felt like a research paper I would have done in college -- all the facts I needed to assemble to meet the page requirement。 To be fair, I probably would've gotten a good grade on the paper, but that doesn't make it good reading。 I did appreciate that it was a concise read。。。too many "self-help" books are blog posts fattened up with repetition to be book-length。 As for ikigai -- I was introduced to the concept by a friend while discussing the pursuit of happiness in Western/American/modern culture。 I don't know that ikigai directly addressed that for me, but it did make me think more about being active continually through my day and life, and I also started drinking green tea。 It also made me want to read more about these "blue zones" where people live the longest, healthiest lives。 So while the book wasn't particularly well-written, I am better for knowing and thinking about the concept。 。。。more

My goal for reading this book wasn't to find out how to live a long life but to find out how to live a happy and meaningful life。 I don't want to live a long life。I consider myself quite happy most of the time but at this time facing my failed marriage and work problem all the happiness seem to disappear。 But of course I am never into drama queen so I always try to move forward and remind myself to be thankful for all the blessing that I still got。 Everyday I brainwash myself to let go sincerely My goal for reading this book wasn't to find out how to live a long life but to find out how to live a happy and meaningful life。 I don't want to live a long life。I consider myself quite happy most of the time but at this time facing my failed marriage and work problem all the happiness seem to disappear。 But of course I am never into drama queen so I always try to move forward and remind myself to be thankful for all the blessing that I still got。 Everyday I brainwash myself to let go sincerely, never let other people worry about me and continue improving myself。However, the hurt sometimes still come and go, and I am worry that I could have a long term damage from not dealing with the pain in the right way。 I know the best advise is to go to a psychiatrist for a consult, but at this time I am not to keen to spend money for that way yet。 I still believe that time heals everything and God has a plan for me and I just need to be patient until I reach His plan。Hence the alternative is to read self improvement books and to learn from other people。I've heard about Ikigai and always wanted to understand it。 But again thinking about money whether is it worth buying the book and reading it and which ikigai book should I buy。 After reading the review from goodreads I select this Ikigai book。 It has been on my to buy list but was never serious enough to buy it。 But like everything in my life, timing is everything, I accidentally notice there were the translated version of a bundled book about living a happy life which I can buy more economically。 This Ikigai was one of the book in the bundle。So I read the translated version and I like it。 I would have preferred to read the english version but the translated version is acceptable and the book was printed in hardcover with color。 So the physical book has already made me excited to read it。 Value for money。This book gave me confirmation that I have been doing well。 Ikigai show me that I have to be resilient, to live in the moment and not worry about the future or the past, to surround myself with positive friends, to keep myself busy with something I like, to continue learning, to be spiritual and so many others that I agree completely。 I think I have been doing that。 I like that this book was not only talking about Ikigai in Japan but also has other theories that support each other。 I also like their healthy living tips (eating until 80% full, antioksidant, keep moving actively)。 At 88 years old and still driving is amazing。 This book might not be suitable for everybody。 There are other opinion on how to live a happy life。 You just need to find the right fit。 I myself find this theory fits me and my character at this stage of my life。 Next book to read Lagom and Hygge。 。。。more

Ikigai is the type of book you’ll read, highlight to death, and then keep on your bedside stand for the foreseeable future— for frequent re-reading and referencing, of course。 Reading this book was, in and of itself, a meditative experience。 While the book is, as the title suggests, focused on achieving ikigai, the authors skillfully incorporated complementary concepts throughout, pulling from and expanding on different facets of personal development。 In Ikigai, authors Héctor García and Frances Ikigai is the type of book you’ll read, highlight to death, and then keep on your bedside stand for the foreseeable future— for frequent re-reading and referencing, of course。 Reading this book was, in and of itself, a meditative experience。 While the book is, as the title suggests, focused on achieving ikigai, the authors skillfully incorporated complementary concepts throughout, pulling from and expanding on different facets of personal development。 In Ikigai, authors Héctor García and Francesc Miralles lovingly approach the topic of a life’s purpose with anecdotes, interviews, and numerous bits of helpful historical and cultural context。 They even include diagrams and detailed steps for performing a simple sun salutation or radio taiso exercise。I recommend Ikigai to anyone interested in personal development and is looking for a good balance of context, examples, and tactics。 Ikigai is also an incredibly giftable book。 The down-to-earth, genuinely helpful, and meaningfully compassionate way the authors speak to readers is refreshing— elements that are surprisingly missing from many other books in the personal development genre。This post is adapted from my review originally published on my blog here。 📚 Connect with me on Instagram 。。。more
